The Emergence of the Canvas
Research has consistently identified school leadership as one of the most significant school-based influences on student outcomes.
The Educational Leadership Canvas™ emerged from a simple but persistent question:
How can leadership development better support the daily complexity, responsibility and human reality of leadership within schools?
Leadership development is most valuable when it moves beyond understanding ideas and into deliberate practice within the everyday realities of school life.
The Educational Leadership Canvas™ brings together school leadership experience, educational research and practical leadership learning design to help leaders develop the habits, language and disciplines that strengthen how they think, respond, communicate and lead over time.
Lessons from the Field
The work is grounded in more than 25 years of experience across the South Australian education system, including site leadership in diverse secondary and R–12 settings and system-level consultancy with leaders across both primary and secondary schools.
These experiences have shaped a deep respect for the complexity of school leadership: the relational demands, the strategic decisions, the accountability pressures, the human moments and the constant need to hold both care and high expectations.
